Director ’ s Desk
Greetings from the School of Social Sciences.
It was strongly believed that the era of Globalization will usher prosperity in all the sections of the society. This notion is gradually withering away. We have observed during the last one decade that the gap between rich and poor is getting sharpened. Here I feel the pro-active role to be played by the disciplines of Social Sciences to see that the vulnerable sections of society interest remain intact.
The School of Social Sciences offers post graduate programmes in Master of Social Work, Master of Arts in Sociology, and Master in Arts in Applied Economics, Master of Arts in Human Rights and Master of Arts in Rural Development. The School of Social Sciences also plans to add a few more disciplines like Psychology and Personnel Management and Human Resource Development in the coming years. The syllabus of courses offered in the School is at par with the courses offered by the reputed national level universities in the country. The School of Social Sciences has developed its Computer Centre with Internet facility for the students. Modern technologies like LCD, Overhead Projector and Case Study Method are used extensively for the class room teaching. The nicety of the syllabus is that, it contains a component of field work where the students are posted in rural community and urban slums to understand the prevailing life situation and subsequently write a dissertation at the fourth semester. I would rather say that the School has developed excellent academic environment for students.
The School of Social Sciences has drawn experienced faculty members from different states of India. The thrust areas of research programmes undertaken by faculty members are Agrarian Studies, Rural Development, Tribal Development, Gender Studies, Labour Issues, Environment Issues, Industrial policy and Urban Governance.
I would love to share more information about the academic activities of the School, if any queries are made.
