The SRTM University constructed one 10 lane athletic track of 400 meters in 2004. Usually the Athletic Federation recommends six or eight lane tracks but we have a ten lane track. It has been done keeping in mind that in future, eight lanes will be converted to synthetic track and the other two will remain clay tracks. Continual practice on synthetic surface is known to make ankle tendons stiff causing injuries. Hence, continual practice on synthetic lane might be disadvantageous. Our athletes would have that advantage of practicing on both – clay as well as synthetic track in future. In the last Olympic Games 100 meter race was conducted on 10 lane track but we have it since 2004.

Our university insists on recruitment of 5% of sports personalities in all affiliated colleges. This is in accordance with the policy of State Government of Maharashtra.

The university has constructed a Sports Hostel from its own fund.

The university constructed one international standard Indoor Sports Hall having a playing area of 45x36 meters. All AIU approved indoor sports will be played and practiced over here.

The international standard weight lifting training center is also available for weight lifters in the university campus

The university is already organized the Maharashtra State Inter-university tournaments (Krida Mahotsav) for the second time in November 2005, 2015 and proposed in the year 2021. In this competition men and women teams participate in six different sports.

Every year the university attempts to conduct inter-university sports which are organized in the University campus and in affiliated colleges. The aim is to promote awareness about sports in rural areas and encourage the talent over there to participate in sports. Our attempts to popularize sports events have borne fruit and we had two girls from Shirur Tajbandh Gram Panchayat who represented the state team for Kabaddi. They also played practice matches with Thailand Women team. All India Inter-University Kabddi tournaments were organized at Shirur Tajband. One Handball player from Ahmedpur represented India, several players of Kho-Kho team represented Indian team for international tournament which is the fruit of organizing such events in rural areas.

The AIU gives incentive grants of Rs 40,000/- for each event but the university gives the incentive grants of Rs 3,50,000 before 2018 now it is increased up to 400,000/- (Four Lac) for an event to affiliated colleges. This shows our commitment towards the promotion and excellence in sports.

We are constructing one Indoor Hall exclusively for Indian games Kho-Kho and Kabaddi. We propose to have these games on Mat with sensor technology in collaboration with the School of Physical Sciences. This will help reduce the injuries and impartial referee ship in Kho-Kho and Kabaddi. This should help popularize Kho-Kho and Kabaddi at the international level.

The university organizes programmes to felicitate recipients of medals by awarding them cash prizes. The principal and the sports director of the colleges which have won the medals in inter-university sports competitions are also felicitated by the university. This encourages and motivates the sports activities.
