The School of Earth Sciences, established in the year 1994 along with the inception of University, has been committed to giving quality education to students, promoting a high-quality teaching and fundamental research in Earth Sciences. The School offers Masters Programs in Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Science and Geography; Post-Graduate Diploma in Geoinformatics; Certificate Course in Industrial Safety, Health and Environmental Management; Master of Philosophy in Geology, Environmental Science and Geography and Doctor of Philosophy in Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Science and Geography.
The School of Earth Sciences excels in teaching and research and provides an encouraging environment for students’ academic growth. The Faculty of School of Earth Sciences are well-qualified with national and international reputation. The strength of our School is commitment to work with a positive approach towards achieving the academic goals. At present, the School of Earth Sciences is one of the progressive and vibrant academic departments in India in the field of Earth Sciences.
The School is having academic and research association with Research organizations like NGRI, IIG, NCS, GSDA through MoUs for academic collaborations, student training and innovative research programs. The School has also signed MoUs with different colleges to maintain the academic relationship and sustainable growth in the field of Earth Sciences.
The formulation of the M.Sc./M.A. courses in the School of Earth Sciences is based on the curriculum reports published by UGC and NET syllabus given by UGC-CSIR and requirements of research institutes and industry. In tune with UGC guidelines, from 2014-15 onwards, the CBCS system has been introduced in all the courses. The credit system with mandatory core courses, optional courses and specializations enhances the teaching quality and offers choice to the students to select from a broad spectrum of subjects. This system helps the students to overcome the conventional barriers of departmental system and equip them with knowledge of subjects of their own choice. All the faculty members use audio and visual aids to enhance quality of teaching and better illustration of complex processes. Starting this academic year the School of Earth Sciences is completely overhauling the syllabi of all the courses and introducing many subject-centric and open electives.
To inculcate research temperament, project work was made mandatory for Master students in the School of Earth Sciences. These projects are not mere compilations of existing data but are soundly based on new data generated exclusively for the project.
The School has needed infrastructure and software for the Masters programs and is on an ambitious path to procure sophisticated instruments to carry out advanced research. The School is funded by UGC-SAP, DST-FIST, RUSA and UGC-Innovative programs. The faculty members operate many extra-mural sponsored projects.
