Dr. Derek Hooper, an eminent consultant on gender equality of UK Government, London hadinaugurated the centre.Women\u2019s study centre focusing on different women issue, gender inequality and discrimination in the society through many activities namely teaching, research and extension. For generating awareness and up gradation of knowledge the centre has offered full time P.G. It has become almost obligatory for the Development agencies and systems of governance at local, regional, national and international levels to incorporate gender perspectives in their programme and policies. Gender concerns are somewhat \u2018sensibly\u2019 integrated in corporate sector in the western countries and are making some headway in non-western corporate world as well. This obligatory inclusion of gender within various domains shows the success of women\u2019s movement in putting the issues of gender in place. But there is a simultaneous erosion of gender equality reflected in growing violence against women, unfavourable sex ratio, declining health status, sexualized and unsafe public spaces, insensitive media, women\u2019 slack of equal access to education, food, health and political participation. As markers of community honour women are invariably drawn in caste, communal and ethnic conflict. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. A. Suneetha from Anveshi Research Centre for Women, Hyderabad. A. Suneetha has made substantial contribution to the field of gender, law and domestic violence. In her inaugural speech she elaborated upon how feminist research in India is linked with various strands within feminist movements viz. the reformist, the nationalist the leftist and in current times dalit, queer and disability feminism added to the list. The Vice-chancellor of the University, Professor Dilip Ukey, who presided over the inaugural function, focused his lecture on gender and law. The chief guest for the valedictory session was Professor Suneetha Rani from the University of Hyderabad who concluded the workshop by lecturing on dalit women and their material conditions and how their experiences are depicted in dalit women\u2019s poetry. The poetry could be a source of the vantage point to explore social realities. Lata Bishe from Pune talked about Vishakha Judgement, 2013 and Gender Equality. Madhav Dompalle and Jyoti Sapkal also explained the Act in details. Another speaker clarified the Amendments in Sexual Harassment Laws of 2013. This workshop was organised in the collaboration with YASHADA, Pune.<\/p><p>4) Transgender Identity and Transgender Lives in Contemporary India ( 4th March 2015):<\/p><p>Women\u2019s Studies Centre organized One-day National Workshop on Transgender Identity and Transgender Lives in Contemporary India on 4 th March 2015. The workshop created awareness about social exclusion based on gender and sexual identity. LGBT movement in India and the landmark Supreme Court Judgment of 2014, known as NALSA judgment, was also discussed in the workshop. Around one hundred participants participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Pushpesh Kumar, Associate Professor, University of Hyderabad. Mr. Suresh Khole, SBP Pune University, and Mr. Navdeep, from ANVESHI Research Centre for women, Hyderabad deliberated upon the enormous violence and marginalization the trans-communities experience because of class, gender and sexual identities of trans-persons.<\/p><p>5) Growing Violence against Women and Marginalised Genders (17 October 2016):<\/p><p>The centre organized One-day National Workshop on Growing Violence against Women and Marginalised Genders on 17 October 2016. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Deepa Srinivas from Director, Centre for Women\u2019s Studies HCU, Hyderabad. Prof.PanditVidyasagar Vice\u2013Chancellor, S.R.T.M.University, Nanded, presided over the inaugural function. The chief guest of the workshop Dr. Deepa Srinivas touched upon \u201cRepresenting Gender and Violence: An engagement through Cinema.\u201d Ms. Firdaus Soni, HCU, Hyderabad elaborated upon \u2018Sairat\u2019 Reflecting upon Caste and Gender Violence. After this lecture a documentary film \u201cLaxman Rekha\u201d was screened for Participants. The film was based on women\u2019s issue. In second session Dr. Sanjay Kamble highlighted the continuation of gender violence by focusing on Honour Killings. Pushpesh kumar in his speech outlined the violence against transgender in India and focused upon how the queer movement in the city of Hyderabad over past two years has democratized by privileging the voice of transgender communities. University on 31st January 2017. Colleges who are affiliated with the S.R.T.M. University had sent their Principal and two members of the Internal Complain Committee to participate in the workshop. Around 370 participants were present in the workshop. The Hon\u2019ble Vice-Chancellor of this University, Pandit Vidyasagar inaugurated the workshop. The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Manjusha Molwane, Member Secretary of Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Mumbai. He presented elaborate provisions of Commission like Counselling and Free Legal Aid Cell, Monotoring and Evaluation Committee on social issues, and activities undertaken like Legal Literacy Camps, Networking with NGO\u2019s, addressing issues such as, Violence, atrocities against women etc.<\/p><p>2) Domestic Violence and Family Counseling:<\/p><p>Mr. Madhav Dompale, an NGO activities and Coordinator and family counsellor of Maharash State Women\u2019s Commission delivered a lecture on Domestic Violence and Family Counselling. In his view, deep rooted patriarchal domination, dowry, impact of liquor and lack of democratic family values constitute the main cause of domestic violence in rural society.<\/p><p>3)\u2018Women and Superstition\u2019 (8th March 2014):<\/p><p>The Centre invited Dhanraj Hallare, to deliver special lecture on \u2018Women and Superstition\u2019 on the occasion of International Women\u2019s Day on 8th March 2014. He talked about women\u2019s suppression in every sphere of life; it has made women more vulnerable to superstitions. Women have to face many difficulties, obstructions, defeats, despair, violence, economic dependency on men. These difficulties turn women towards superstitions. He also interacted with participants. The Centre organised one-day workshop on \u2018Protection against Sexual Harassment, 2013 and Gender Equality\u2019 for female staff of the University to create awareness. Rajashri Sakale an activist from Kolhapur, who is also the founder the organisation Sharirbodh delivered the lecture on this occasion. In her lecture she talked about different forms of harassment women face at their Workplace.<\/p><p>5) Talk on \u2018Mahatma Phule and Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar views on Women\u2019s Liberation\u2019 (1st and 2nd January 2016):<\/p><p>The centre organized two-days lecture series on Mahatma Phule and Women\u2019s Liberation and Dr. Babashaheb Ambedkar and Women\u2019s Liberation in collaboration with Dr. Ambedkar\u2019s Chair and Study Centre of the University on 1 st and 2nd January 2016. The guest speakers for the occasion were Dr. Sangeeta Thosar, Assistant Professor from Women\u2019s Studies Centre of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Dr. Pushpesh Kumar from the Department of Sociology, University of Hyderabad. Dr. Thosar in her lecture deliberated upon the views of Jyotiba Phule and Dr. Ambedkar with regard to patriarchy and gender.<\/p><p>6) Women and Health (12 January 2016):<\/p><p>To celebrate birth anniversary of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule the Centre organised a guest lecture on Women and Health on 12 January 2016. Dr. Kishore Atnurkar an established gynecologist and practitioner was invited to deliver the lecture on Women and Health. He touched upon various issues related to health such as adolescent girls\u2019 health, anemia among women, menstruation and women\u2019s health, gynaecological problem, and, men and their sexual health and anxieties. He also spoke on problems faced by working women who are doubly burdened. These women ignore their health because they do not have time to spend as they are busy with either domestic chores or workplace burdens. He suggested male audience to support women in their respective in the latter\u2019s household work. The speaker received a large number of questions from the audience leading to lengthy conversation on the above issues.<\/p><p>7) Women and Development (27 August 2016):<\/p><p>The centre organized Guest Lecture on Women and Development on 27 August 2016. Dr. Pushpesh Kumar, Associate Professor, from Department of Sociology Central University of Hyderabad was invited as Guest Speaker. He delivered lecture to students of both courses such as, Interdisciplinary Certificate Course in Women\u2019s Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Women\u2019s Studies. He talked about the different debates pertaining to gender and development viz. Women in Development (WID), Women and Development (WAD), Gender and Development (WAD). He highlighted that women need to be integrated into development processes as active agents if efficient and effective development is to be achieved. The speaker received a good number of questions from the audience.<\/p><p>8) \u2018Representation of Women in Media and Culture \u2019 (6th October 2016):<\/p><p>The women\u2019s study Centre of this university invited Dr.Rajendra Gonarkar from School of Media Studies,S.R.T.M.University, to interact with the student on the topic \u2018Representation of Women in Media and Culture\u2019 on 6th October 2016. He opined that the powerful role of media as a tool for social change cannot be ignored. Media is not isolated from society. Due to its powerful influence; it not only strengthens pre-existing stereotypes but perpetuates new stereotypes as well. While steps to change women\u2019s life situation are debated ,the portrayal of women in media particularly in soap operas and advertisement takes this backward .So ,media exist with this contradiction. This trend continuous despite the linear progression of the women\u2019s movement .Media reinforces the popular notion that a women\u2019s ultimate place is home and the most important and valuable asset of a women is physical beauty.<\/p><p>Special Lecture<\/p><p>9) Feminist Ideas in Economics (1st February 2018):<\/p><p>Women\u2019s Studies Centre and School of Social Sciences SRTMUN, had jointly organized a Special Lecture on the topic \u201cFeminist Ideas in Economics\u201d on 01st February 2018. After introduction the session discussed upon Dalit Feminism. There is a wide gap between Dalit women and upper caste-class women on economic, social and educational levels. Along with caste based atrocities they are constantly under the threat of violence; inside homes they have to tolerate the physical violence and other atrocities of their own men. Despite these oppressions, dalit women also hold certain agency and are the major providers of their families. Gopal Guru\u2019s article \u201cDalit Women Talk differently\u201d and Sharmila Rege\u2019s \u2018Dalit Feminist Standpoint\u2019 were also discussed. Students, researchers and faculty members actively participated in the discussion.<\/p><p>Screening of Film:<\/p><p>1)\u201cUmbartha\u201d( 19th March 2016): A Marathi film titled \u201cUmbartha\u201d, in English: \u201cThreshold\u201d, focusing on the life of institutionalized women in Maharashtra was screened on the occasion of International Women\u2019s Day on 19th march 2016. Before screening the film Dr. Nina Gogate, a faculty at the School of Language and Literature of this university, talked about various issues regarding the film. Umbartha was released in 1982. It was produced by D. V. Rao and directed by Dr. Jabbar Patel. The film is a story of a woman&#8217;s struggle to step outside her home and bring change in the society. Smita Patil played the lead protagonist in the film for which she won Marathi Rajya Chitrapat Puraskar for the best actress. The film was adjudged as the Best Feature Film in Marathi at the 29th National Film Awards. The film is based on a Marathi novel &#8220;Beghar&#8221; (translation: Homeless) by Shanta Nisal.<\/p><p>International Women\u2019s Day:<\/p><p>1) Guest lecture series organised on the occasion of International Women Days on \u2018Women Empowerment : Myth or Reality \u2019and \u2018Gotual Culture among the Adivasis and Women \u2019 (8th March 2017)<\/p><p>To celebrate the International Women\u2019s Day Women\u2019s Studies Centre, S.R.T.M. University had organized Guest Lecture on 8th March 2017. The centre invited Rajshree Patil, a Social Worker, from Nanded as chief guest. The Hon\u2019ble Vice-Chancellor of this University, Pandit Vidyasagar inaugurated the function. Rajshree Patil talked on the topic \u2018Women Empowerment: Myth or Reality\u2019. She mentioned that the subject of empowerment of women has become a major issue across the world including India over past few decades. Many agencies of United Nations in their reports have emphasized that gender issue is to be given utmost priority. Inequalities between men and women and discrimination against women have also been age-old issues all over the world. The centre had also invited Dr. V. S. Anmulwad, Assistant Professor, S.R.T.M. University, as Guest Lecture to talk on, \u2018Gotul Culture among the Adivasis and Women\u2019. A Gotul is a spacious tribal hut surrounded by earthen or wooden walls. It is an integral part of Gond and Muria tribal life in regions of Chhattisgarh and the neighboring areas in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh in India. It is an independent and autonomous place for youths. The gotul is central to social and religious life in Gond society.<\/p><p>2) Programmes on International Women\u2019s Day (7th, 8th, 9th and 10th March 2018)<\/p><p>On the occasion of International Women\u2019s Day, Women\u2019s Studies Centre, School of Social Sciences and School of Language and Literature jointly conducted a Special lecture on 8 th March 2018.
